Functionally speaking, the display device is the intermediary between man and machine. It serves as a bridge in the human-machine system and is a human-machine interface device. Functionally speaking, it is the electrical information signal transmitted from various machines. It is converted into an optical intelligence signal that people can visually recognize, and has the function of simulating optical intelligence information in a two-dimensional space. It is also an electric-to-optical conversion device.
Classification of display devices
Classified by whether the pixel itself emits light or not
According to whether the pixel itself emits light or not, display devices can be divided into two categories: active display devices and passive display devices. The characteristic of the former is that the device itself produces optical radiation under the action of an external electrical signal, so it can also be called a luminous display device or an optical radiation device; the latter is that the optical properties of the material change under the action of an external electrical signal, or It transmits light, or causes light to reflect, scatter, and interfere, so that the light shining on it is modulated. What the human eye sees is this modulated light with prescribed information, so this type of device is also called a light modulation device. Or light-receiving display device.
Classified by structural principles shown
According to the structural principle of the display, it can be divided into four categories: electronic display devices, flat panel display devices, optical projection display devices and digital display devices.
1、Electron beam display device (i.e. cathode ray tube CRT): Use appropriate control circuits to control the electron beam in the vacuum tube to scan on the fluorescent screen and excite the phosphor to emit light to display images or text.
2. Flat panel display device: usually refers to a display whose thickness is less than 1/4 of the diagonal size of the display screen.
Such display devices include liquid crystal display (LCD) devices, plasma display (PDP) devices, electroluminescence (EL) display devices, etc.
3. Optical projection display device: It uses an optical system to project a small-area image onto the screen to achieve display. This display method can obtain a large-area image, which is convenient for many people to watch at the same time. Optical projection displays mainly include projection TVs, Laser display devices, light valve display devices, etc.
4. Digital display device: refers to the display device that displays numbers from 0 to 9 in small electronic devices such as desktop computers, pocket calculators, electronic watches, and digital instruments. Such devices mainly include light-emitting diode (LED) display devices, fluorescent digital display devices (VFD), glow discharge display devices, filament display devices, electrophoretic display devices (EPID), electrochromic display devices (ECD), etc.
